Meet Our Psychologist
Ms Rachael Cheong
She/her
Registered Psychologist
Rachael is experienced in providing treatment tailored to suit each unique individual. She supports adult clients who can make the time and effort to work towards the meaningful change they wish to see in their lives. Rachael uses collaborative approaches for a variety of presenting problems. Her practice largely encompasses modalities of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Based Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness.
Rachael is extremely interested in providing diagnostic assessments for Autism, Intellectual Disability and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity differences (ADHD) for both children and adults. She also uses an array of comprehensive tools to measure current adaptive functioning, executive functioning skills, academic skill or intelligence, and overall behaviour. She is committed to utilising current, evidence-based assessment tools, whilst ensuring that she adheres to national guidelines surrounding appropriate assessment and diagnosis, and the APS Code of Ethics.
Moreover, Rachael has an avid passion in supporting neurodivergent adults, particularly those with late in life diagnoses and those who are considered "high masking". She highlights an ongoing issue within our current health system which leads both Autism and ADHD to be widely misdiagnosed in adult women; often coined as anxiety-related disorders, trauma-related disorders, adjustment disorder or Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).
Rachael has invaluable lived experience as a neurodivergent, LGBTQ+ person. She is passionate about creating a safe, inclusive, neuro-affirmative space for all of her clients. She recognises that all brain styles are unique and invaluable within our society. Rachael is dedicated to constantly learning, growing and critically reflecting on her practice. She advocates for the social model of disability and she honours sensory-based and strength-based approaches, rather than the pathological medical model.
Rachael is an approved Medicare provider (6267823F). Rachael is a member of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc (AAPI). She is fluent in Cantonese and English.
